THEFT OUT OF & THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE
Theft of and theft out off motor vehicles is on an increase and this is a great concern to the Management of Douglasdale SAPS. To avoid being a victim of Crime : •Make sure all valuables are locked in a safe place. •Avoid leaving valuables in the boot of your vehicle. •Avoid leaving valuable items on the car seats in full view of would be criminals. •Make sure that all windows and doors are locked. •Make sure that alarm and anti hi-jacking systems are working and armed when vehicle is parked. •Make sure that you test your alarm system twice before you leave your vehicle parked at a shopping center or shopping mall. •Refrain from parking vehicles on the verge of the road overnight. HOUSE BREAKING •Make sure that all electric fencing and alarm systems are tested and in a working order. •Make sure that all doors and windows are closed and locked. •Make sure that gates and garage doors are properly closed and locked. •Have a friend or family member look after your home if possible while you are away. •Leave valuables eg jewelry, firearms at a bank safe if possible. •Make sure that your animals are placed at kennels or you have someone to feed them and check on them from time to time. •Have someone remove all mail from post boxes while you are away. •Install day/night switches so that lights are switched on and off. •Avoid leaving windows open for pets.

ATM/BANK MACHINES
•Drive and park close to ATM’s. •Avoid drawing money at street ATM’s at night. •Be aware of movement and people in the area. •Don’t except help from strangers. •Never enter your pin before being asked by machine to do so. •When keying in your pin try to cover with your hand. •Put your cash away before leaving the ATM. •Do not swipe your card through any device before inserting your card into the machine. •Only ask bank personnel for assistance. •Make sure you have your own card when leaving the ATM. •Beware of objects stuck to the ATM, •Be alert when asked by someone to help with ATM access or a lift from the ATM. •Be aware of a scam by people who pretend to have found money and are willing to share their find.
